Our 1st Anniversary Party with Rocky, Nish and Nimish!

DSC_1323
First of all I want to say WOW! I could not have imagined a better way to celebrate our First Anniversary at R&R than the way it was Friday night. That was simply incredible. Thank you to everyone who came out. Rocky, Nish, and Nimish were awesome that night. Our reps, Heath Hill and Rachael Hedman as always did an amazing job. The employees, Kennith, Matt, and Jacob were going crazy trying to keep the shop clean, and run the register. My mom and dad Randy and Debbie, all the cleanup work they did around the shop to make it shine for the event. Most importantly to all of the customers and friends who came out and helped us celebrate! We could not have had the awesome event we did without each and every one of you who came out! We are truly blessed with amazing customers like you guys who have supported us through our first year! So again I want to say thank you to all of you! Mary’s Cakes in Northport did the cake, it was INCREDIBLE! If you couldn’t make it check out our Facebook page ! Thank you again!

Rocky Patel Private Cellar Review by Matt Broyles

Rocky Patel Private Cellar

by Matt Broyles

To start off with, I love Rocky Patel. When I first started smoking cigars, it was the Rocky 2003 Cameroon that got me hooked. Many, many, many cigars later, I still love Rocky. I first smoked the private cellar after the IPCPR event, and I was blown away. In cigars, I often look for a good deal of spice and rich, dark flavors, and the private cellar delivers one hundred percent. If dark and intense flavors are up your alley, be sure to give the private cellar a try.

Blend:

Nicaraguan filler

Nicaraguan binder

Connecticut broadleaf wrapper

Size smoked: Torpedo

Strength: medium to full

Body: full

Flavor: full

Number of cigars smoked for review: 1

Construction and appearance:

To start off with, this is a very well-constructed cigar. The wrapper is slightly toothy, but not rough. There are few visible veins, and the seams are even and tight. The wrapper is surprisinglydark. The band is a rich, royal purple and silver that is striking in comparison with the color of the wrapper, giving this cigar an individual look.

Flavors and notes:

For my pre-light draw, I found prevalent notes of dry wine and grapes, with a touch of pepper immediately present. Upon first draw after lighting, the flavor consists of spice, leather, and a hint of dark chocolate. This cigar is immediately a flavor bomb, producing very rich smoke in great quantities. The burn throughout the first third is razor sharp and even, it does not canoe and no touch-ups are needed. As one progresses through the first third, notes of dark chocolate become more prevalent, which blend well with the flavors of coffee and wood that emerge. The spice remains throughout.

In the second third, the spice is still prevalent, and the rich, oily smoke coats the tongue well. The finish of the draw is vaguely sweet now, owing to the flavor of dark chocolate and coffee. Some slightly bitter notes emerge within the coffee flavor, but they are not unpleasant. The burn is still consistent and even, no corrections are necessary. As one smokes through the second third, the flavor of tobacco starts to come out more and more, which is quite nice with the spice and wood. The flavors of chocolate and coffee are diminished. This cigar is still a flavor bomb, and has been since the first draw.

As one moves into the final third, the cigar gradually moves away from spice flavors into a mellow sweetness. The rich tobacco flavor is diminished, and is replaced by the original dry wine flavor. Again, the burn is razor sharp and no deviations in the wrapper are present.

Final thoughts:

In review, I love this cigar. You would be hard pressed to find a more flavorful cigar that is below $10. Rocky knocked it out of the park with this one, and I am looking forward to my next chance to smoke the Private Cellar. The Torpedo is a long smoking size, with a total burn time of one hour and fifteen minutes, which is an impressive time for a torpedo. To summarize, if you’re looking for a dark, rich stick with lots of flavor and chocolate, look no further. Pick up a Private Cellar today at R&R cigars for $8.50 today!

Rating: 91. I greatly enjoyed this cigar, but I personally found the notes of spice to be overpowering for brief intervals, but they were not significant enough to sully my feelings on this great cigar by Rocky Patel.

Review of La Palina Cigars Kill Bill (KB)

The La Palina Cigars Kill Bill

One of my favorite cigars is the La Palina Kill Bill. I love the brand, it’s classic and has a fresh approach to cigars. I love the people that work there, seriously, they’re INCREDIBLE people, but most  importantly I love the cigars. Something about La Palina has stood out to me since the first day I was introduced to the brand. I remember my first trade show in New Orleans in 2011 and I met Bill Paley for the first time. He was sharply dressed, and quite honestly looked like the Most Interesting Man in the World. I was amazed at how friendly and down to Earth Bill was. He told me about how he had given his time to help in Addiction centers before reviving the La Palina line. I kept thinking to myself, this guy is incredible and a fantastic human being. I lit the La Palina he gave me and I was instantly blown away. We brought the cigar into the store I managed in Virginia. It was a huge hit. Here’s another how awesome is La Palina story, I’m on a trip with my family down to Nassau. So I called Courtney the VP of La Palina and tell her I’m down in the Bahamas. She set me up with a tour of the factory at Graycliff where La Palina was being made, and had the owners of Graycliff hang out and smoke with us all night. I wasn’t in the industry at this point, but they still went out of their way. I’ve watched this company grow since then in the past 3 years from the Family series made by Graycliff, to the Diario’s, Kill Bills, and now the Classic’s made at PDR. I’ve been amazed every step of the way. I hope you are too. So without further ado my review of the La Palina Kill Bill.

Blend:
Wrapper: Honduran Corojo ’99 Rosado
Binder: Honduran Criollo ’98 (Double binder)
Filler: Nicaraguan Corojo ’99 and Criollo ’98

Appearance:
This cigar looks delicious from the outset. The band reminds you of a Cuban band, with the classic Cuban box style. The Corojo Rosado wrapper on the cigar is reddish brown adding an extra level of beauty.

Flavor:

The initial pre-draw is amazing. I’m getting some berry notes with sweetness and spice. It smells heavenly. I lit the cigar and was blown away immediately by the rich flavors. It’s a flavor bomb for the first half inch, something that doesn’t happen often enough in cigars. I think that’s why I love this cigar. It’s rich and smooth with a lot of spice, sweetness, and a little fruity flavors. The ash is a dark charcoal that reminds me of a Cuban cigar. The middle third of the cigar really picked up some steam, the spice evened out and gave way to more sweetness and citrus notes. The retrohale in the middle third was INTENSE (seriously blow the smoke through your nose in this 3rd and you’ll see what I’m talking about). The last third is the most important third of a cigar, primarily because that’s what you remember most about the cigar. For a cigar to be a truly great cigar in my opinion I don’t want it to end. The last third of the KB the sweetness gave way to pepper and spice. The strength of the cigar really mellowed out in the retrohale, but the flavors were as intense in the last third as they were in the first two. I smoked this cigar down to the stingers. Another great part of the finish was the cigar didn’t get too hot which is a problem in a lot of cigars.

Final Thoughts:

I thought this quote from Kill Bill summed this cigar up as best as words can put it- “I am finished doing what I swore an oath to God 28 years ago to never do again. I’ve created, “something that kills people.” And in that purpose, I was a success. I’ve done this because, philosophically, I am sympathetic to your aim. I can tell you with no ego, this is my finest sword.” This cigar is wonderful from start to finish. This cigar is special and if you haven’t smoked it you definitely need to give it a try!

Rating: 95 I don’t smoke many petite coronas but when I do I smoke the La Palina Kill Bill. Long Ashes my Friends

The KB’s come in boxes of 30 or in a 4 pack. You can pick one up for $8.75 at R&R or a 4 pack for $35! Stop by and get yours today!

R&R Cigars Top 25 of 2012

Let me first start by saying ROLL DAMN TIDE! #15 is officially in the books! What an awesome season! Fifteen is a lot of championships and I’m not going to list them all. What I am going to list is the R&R Cigars Top 25. Now this list is based on sales of the cigar, my personal tastes, and the feeback you’ve given me over the course of the year. So some of you might disagree, and that’s cool. All palates are different if you think something should have been higher let me know on twitter- @RandRcigars or stop by and say it.Oh yeah this is a really twitter themed top 25 so you can follow these people and let them know how much you like their cigars! Anyways now that the awkward Reagan’s personal preferences is out of the way, if you hadn’t figured out from the picture of my buddy Sean Williams from @PrimerMundo that he obviously did well in the top 25. So without further ado the Top 25:

#1- That’s right you guessed it the @PrimerMundo Clase Reserva- Honestly this was the best smoke Ive had all year. I smoked this after Cuban Bolivar and was stunned how good it was with that amazing Cuban taste on my palate. So many of you guys have RAVED about this cigar, and it was the hands down #1 cigar this year

#2- @RockyPatelCigar Fifty Torpedo- Let’s see you guys voted this #2 with your pocket books, it was the #1 selling cigar of the year at R&R Cigars. Amazing smoke thats smooth and rich. I just love it. The price tag is steep but you HAVE to try it. The Rocky Patel Event in January will be the LAST Chance to get some!

#3- @LaPalinaCigars Kill Bill- Honestly 1-3 could have gone either way, I was so amazed at how good this cigar was especially in a Petite Corona size. It’s full bodied and full of flavor! I dare you to find me a cigar w/ more flavor under $10 or any cigar for that matter!

#11 @primermundo Hermandad...Herman’s dad must have been an amazing guy right? I mean seriously, this cigar is the #1 selling cigar of 2012. We sold out every box at this national launch party. Ok  I can’t say enough good things about this cigar…its amazing if you havent had it you need it!
